1.6 Initial Ideas

Initial Ideas

Sport and Food

Sport -

In this section we thought about the ideas of Food and Sport as they were both things we admired and loved. In the sport section we focused on Drug use in sport and history's greatest sporting achievements.  We tried to think of things that were modern and would fit our target audience which was an audience of mainly young people like us so we thought of modern athletes breaking records like Usain Bolt and his world record for the 100m sprint or Lewis Hamilton breaking records with his pole positions in F1.  But overall we never touched on the sporting idea as really there was nothing local to talk about in the film.
Food -

However one idea we both loved was the idea of Unhealthy food vs Healthy food. This topic actually matter to us as we feel that healthy food is way more expensive than unhealthy food. So we wanted exploit this problem and show it to our audience to see if they agree with are views.  We also wanted to do about how vegans are destroying the planet, This isn’t in a literal sense, but we wanted to show are audience why eating too healthy can be bad.

Social Media and Tech

Tech -

So with being in the theme of being modern we decided to draft a few ideas on tech. During this time apple were just announcing the iPhone 10 (or X) and it got us thinking how technology is now so expensive and people just buy it because its new. But what people don’t know and what we would tell the audience is that the technology used in the phones are pretty much outdated form day 1. Another topic we were interested in was technology in education. This would explaining the benefits and limitations of technology in education and another idea we had was if library's were needed anymore in schools. Because it could just be replaced with a computer right?.

Social media –
Social is a big topic for our target audience as most if not all teenagers use some sort of social media to connect with friends or to look at things on the world wide web. So we narrowed down a few minor topics to talk about in this bigger topic. Bullying was one of the first topics that came to are minds as over 41% of teens and kids get bullied online. So this would be a great topic to tell are audience about. However we decided against it in the end as it would be to conventional as so many people have used this topic before. However are other topic was “ Are we becoming more or less social”. This meant that even though that social media has brought the whole world together, at the same time has it stopped people from socialising. As now everyone looks at a screen in a dark room people don’t go out anymore especially kids and teens. This is defiantly something that me and Dan were interested in researching.

Politics
During our discussion of what topics to have in a documentary politics was a very vast a big option. Not just because it happens all over the world, but the fact that it was very big at the time when coming up for ideas as we had just had a general election and had a record of students and young people voting, so surly with are age demographic interested, why not make a documentary in the political world.
So we had quite a few ideas in this topics the main subjects for this were: World politics – so not just British politics, Brexit – as it was still current, and finally the HS2 which we liked as it was affect our local area.
World Events.
For the world events idea we mostly focused on the conflict between North Korea and America. Our idea for North Korea would be to focus on what its drive was to have/use nuclear weapons against
the world and why it would start a third world war. The next topic we liked was focusing on what America is like now with Donald trump as the president. We would ask a range of different people from a range of different backgrounds on what they thought of Donald trump before he was president. We could also link the two ideas together and figure out why NK and A are at each others throats. However the problem with both of these ideas would be that we wouldn't have enough resources or people that knew a lot about both of these topics, which is a shame as both of these topics would have made great documentary's its just that we also have to be optimistic.

British Politics

Our next topic is British politics which is a little more down to earth. We wanted to teach our audience a little more about politics so with that in mind we chose topics that we could understand and that were also important to the future of the country. The first of these 2 topics was Brexit. Its been over a year since Brexit happened and it is still a topic quite a few people are talking about. If I'm honest I really don’t know much about Brexit but if I didn’t know I feel like many other teens my age would know either so the main reason this topic was chosen is to show the audience what Brexit is and it is also to benefit myself in learning what Brexit actually means for the UK.  Its also a similar story about the Hs2, But in addition to that, we thought that it would be more fitting for our local area as the HS2 is affecting Tamworth is quite a big way in the next few years. We would also ask local residents, that if the HS2 is a good or a bad idea.
Our Final Ideas
So, we knew we wanted to do a documentary but we had a few ideas of what we wanted to do. As you can see we had a range of topics from Food to Politics. Our top 3 ideas from this pool was
1- Unhealthy Vs Healthy
2- Social Media
3- HS2
Overall we chose to do the HS2 idea. As we thought that the topic is still current and popular and that it is affecting our local area, so this means it is easier to film and get genuine views from our Voxpops. This also means that we as filmmakers can also learn new things from researching about the topic and give that new information to are target audience who want to learn about the HS2
